Lexington Richland School District Five bus destroyed by fire


Irmo, SC – A fire heavily damaged a school bus at Dutch Fork Elementary School on Broad River Road this morning.

According to Derek Phillips, a spokesman for Lexington Richland School District Five, as the bus approached the school, there was a smell of smoke that was noticed by some of the people on the bus.

The students were quickly evacuated and no one on or near the bus was injured. Although the bus was in close proximity to the school, it was not damaged by the fire.

Firefighters from the Irmo Fire District responded to this call and were assisted by personnel from the city of Columbia FD. Jeff Allen, a spokesman for the Irmo FD, said that the bus was a total loss.

The cause of fire is unknown at this time
