Firefighters extinguish fire in basement of a home near Irmo

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Irmo Fire District, Lexington County, and the City of Columbia Fire Department quickly extinguished a fire in the basement of a home on Cove View Point Thursday afternoon. This is on Lake Murray in the vicinity of the well-known lakeside Yacht Club condominium community. The call for assistance came in around 4:30 p.m. and callers advised the 911 operators that there was heavy smoke coming from the home.

When the first firefighters from Irmo rolled up, they did see that there was smoke billowing from the home. After one fire officer circled the house and evaluated the situation, the remainder of the crew pulled their hose and attacked the fire they had located. They quickly knocked it down and reported that it was under control at 4:53 p.m.

Battalion Chief Brent Dominick of the Irmo Fire District said that they did locate a fire in the basement area. There was a great deal of smoke in the house as a result of that, and they used fans to remove it. Dominick said that the cause of the fire has still not been determined and they have not yet put an estimated loss together. No one was displaced as a result of the fire. He said they were appreciative of the assistance they received from the Lexington County and the City of Columbia Fire Department with this fire.
