Round Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – A U-Haul truck loaded with household items caught fire and burned west of Red Bank in a neighborhood close to Longs Pond Road Saturday afternoon. The fire was reported around 1 p.m. It was originally dispatched as a truck fire on Stanley Drive off Roscoe Road. After the fire was dispatched, the call was upgraded to a structural response when other people began reporting the fire was close to a home.
The first fire truck arrived and reported that the engine compartment and cab of the fully loaded truck was well involved in fire. Those firefighters quickly pulled their hoses from the fire engine and made their attack. Within minutes, they had the fire under control and were able to allow other responding units who had not arrived on the scene to return to their stations. The partially loaded truck was completely destroyed by fire. There is little chance that any of the contents will be salvageable.
Lexington County has not released the cause of the fire. It appears as if no one was injured as a result of the fire. U-Haul representatives were notified to come and deal with the burnt out wreckage of the truck.
