Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A Ford pickup truck caught fire and burned beside the Country Gas Mart on Hwy. 321 south near Gaston Tuesday. The fire was reported between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. Callers reported that it was close to the store’s structure and they could hear explosions while the truck burned.
The fire engine from Gaston arrived quickly as did a squad and ladder truck with extra manpower from South Congaree. The first due officer described the truck as “well involved.” Even though the firefighters arrived in minutes, the cab and engine compartment had flames rolling out of them when they started their attack. Within moments, they had knocked the fire down and had it under control.
The truck was a complete loss due to the fire. There have been no injuries reported. Firefighters were cleaning up and leaving within 30 minutes of arriving on the scene.
