Cayce, SC – 03/02/2021 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the woman who died in a single vehicle collision last weekend. The crash happened just after merging onto I-77 northbound from I-26 Sunday morning. According to Fisher, the collision happened about 11:00 a.m. on February 28, 2021.
According to Coroner Fisher, Vernetta Tillman, 73, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene. Tillman was wearing her seat belt when the vehicle she was operating left the roadway and collided with a tree. An autopsy confirmed that Tillman’s death was the result of a natural medical event.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the collision.
