Scrap fire at CMC Lexington Recycling has firefighters early Wednesday morning

Lexington, SC 08/02/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A fire in a scrap pile at CMC Lexington’s Recycling Facility on Two Notch Road near Michelin Tires plant had Lexington County firefighters out working early Wednesday morning. CMC recycles all types of metals but sometime, the materials like upholstery and carpeting in cars and other combustibles that are separated before the metals are shipped for recycling will catch fire and burn.

Firefighters used aerial ladder trucks to flow water down on the fire from above to put it out. Although the fire was large, it didn’t take fire crews long to drown the fire and knock it out. No injuries were reported by Lexington County. Damages were negligible because the metals that were involved were still usable.
