Pelion, SC – The Outdoor Dream Foundation recently recognized Representative Kit Spires of House District 89 for his support of their organization with a framed certificate of appreciation. The award was presented to Spire by Bruce Compton, a volunteer with the organization, at Spire’s business, Big S Drugs, in Pelion, SC.
The Outdoor Dream Foundation is a 100 percent volunteer-driven 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that grants outdoor adventures like hunting or fishing trips to children and youths under 21 years of age who face some of life’s toughest challenges.
More than 98 percent of funds donated to the Outdoor Dream Foundation have gone directly to support adventures for Outdoor Dream Kids and their families. Outdoor Dream Kids who live near our volunteers benefit from a mentoring program that provides fellowship with youth and other families in similar circumstances while learning and enjoying the traditions of hunting and fishing.
The program was started by Coach Harold Jones of South Carolina who was the coach featured in the hit movie Radio. Coach Jones started the program in 2004 with one child and has since served over 400 children by making their dreams of being in the outdoors comes true. The program currently operates in the United States and Canada.
Spires has generously donated to the Outdoor Dream Foundation so that children in and around our area could enjoy trips and sports in the great outdoors. In presenting the certificate Compton said, “We appreciate all the support that Kit and other businesses have provided throughout the years. Without this type of financial support, the program couldn’t continue to make these children with special needs come true.”
