IRMO, SC - 10 students at CrossRoads Intermediate School were named winners of the 2016 Red Ribbon Week Essay Contest. The contest title wasBe Somebody’s Superhero; Stand Up to Bullying and those who Pressure Others to do Drugs!!! The winners of the essay contest were: Tiameh Berry, Carter Bishop, Kaylee Chen, Marquise Davis, Mimi DeMasi, Alyssia Gaston, Jude Hammen, Ely Vess, Tayja Webber and Patrick Young.
Students were instructed to write an essay, in 300 words or less, about what it means to be a Superhero, by standing up to bullying and those who pressure others to do drugs. The winner from each team received a 20-oz., caped, Superhero Water Bottle, that states the following guidelines for being a Superhero:
Have Respect for Everyone;
Encourage other students to do the right thing;
Report bullying to an adult;
Offer to help someone who is buillied.
CrossRoads Intermediate School Counselor Jean Hudson was so proud of these students for their hard work and dedication saying, “We are so proud of these winners and all the exceptional essays submitted by CrossRoads Intermediate School students! We congratulate you all for writing and taking a stand against bullying, and those who bully others to do drugs!”
