LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington County School District One’s White Knoll Elementary School evacuated students and staff at about 2:10 p.m. due to smoke in the building caused by a faulty lighting fixture. All students and staff safely and orderly left the building. Since the normal school day ends at 2:25 p.m., White Knoll Elementary administrators dismissed students, who are car riders, to their parents. WKES students, who are bus riders, will arrive home 30 to 45 minutes later than normal. Since the district double routes school buses, some White Knoll Middle and White Knoll High students who ride buses will also be late arriving home.
