USC Gamecocks headed to Birmingham for post season play

Columbia, SC - The University of South Carolina football team will go bowling at the Birmingham Bowl later this month! The Gamecocks will play the Bulls of South Florida on Thursday, December 29. The game starts at 2 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.

The Gamecocks won four of their final six games of the season after getting off to a slow start with a team made up of mostly freshmen players. Their opponents for the Birmingham Bowl, the Bulls, have a record of 10-2, which included a league record of 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference. The University of South Florida is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast in Tampa.

The Bulls and the Gamecocks have only played once before. At their last meeting, which was in Williams Brice in Columbia, USC pounded them 34-3. That game was in September of 2004.

The Gamecocks have appeared in 21 bowl games in the school’s history. They have a record of 8-12, but have won their last 4 bowl appearances under former coach Steve Spurrier. They have been bowl-eligible in 12 of the past 13 seasons, but did not qualify for a bowl bid in 2015.

The University of South Carolina’s Athletics Ticket Office is currently accepting bowl ticket requests.

Tickets are priced at $50 each. Ticket requests may be submitted online or by calling the ticket office at 800-4SC-FANS (372-4267).
