City of Cayce to Begin Thomas Newman Boat Landing Repairs

CAYCE, SC - The City of Cayce is proud to announce that the repair of Thomas Newman Boat Landing along the Congaree River begins this month.

The City has contracted with R.L. Morrison & Sons for the construction and they have been given the Notice to proceed with work. Construction is scheduled to be completed within 90 days, and should be done by the end of February. The scope of the construction work includes cutting back tree branches, clearing debris, re-grading the dock pad slope, ordering new docks, demolition of old damaged docks, and the final installation of docks attached to the existing piling. Site preparation and clearing will be completed prior to the dock instillation.

“Having the Thomas Newman Boat Landing damaged from the floods has highlighted what a critical resource this is for fisherman, boaters, canoe and kayakers. The Congaree River is a sought after destination and we are excited to get started with construction of a new and improved dock for all to enjoy!” stated Mayor Elise Partin.

The parking lot and the river walk trailheads at the Thomas Newman Boat Landing site will remain open during the construction.
