Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the three Lexington County fire stations in the Chapin area quickly contained a home fire on John Kinard Court Thursday evening. The fire was reported at around 6:00 pm.
The Lexington County personnel and equipment were backed up by a tanker and firefighters from Newberry County, Columbia-Richland’s Fire Service, and the Irmo Fire District.
First due firefighters reported that they had smoke showing from the home when they pulled in. As more personnel arrived on the scene, they pulled their hoses and made an interior fire attack.
Because the Lexington County battalion chief was enroute from the south side of the lake, Irmo’s on duty battalion chief was given command when he arrived. He directed the operation and oversaw the firefighting, overhaul, and mop up once the fire was declared under control.
Engine 16 from Columbia-Richland stood by at Chapin fire station while the fire was being extinguished. They were released to return to their quarters at about 8:20 p.m.
The cause and origin of the fire has not been released by the county. Neither has the extent of the fire’s damage.
