Washington, DC - Yesterday, Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) made the following statement on the morning's shooting at the Republican practice for the Congressional Baseball Game:

“My thoughts and prayers today are with House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, staffer Zach Barth, and Capitol Police Officers Krystal Griner and David Bailey. I am hopeful that each will make a speedy recovery.

“The shooting this morning was reprehensible, and I am grateful for the bravery of Officer Griner and Officer Bailey. They embodied the courage and selflessness that Capitol Police officers display each and every day. I am also thankful for the Members of Congress and local first responders who treated those wounded after the attack.

“I look forward to attending tomorrow’s Congressional Baseball Game, a remarkable annual event that supports local charities, and is a hallmark of bipartisanism and friendship between all Members of Congress and the Senate. Hatred will not prevail as our democracy overcomes adversity.”
