Lexington, SC – Chief Terrence Green would like to advise the Town of Lexington community that the Lexington Police Department will be conducting traffic safety enforcement activities during the daytime hours today, September 18, 2017 in response to continued concerns of traffic collisions and the contributing factors that cause them to occur.
The activities during this one day event will include traffic enforcement saturations and safety checkpoints within the roadways of the Town of Lexington.
The locations for enforcement activities have been identified through statistical collision data, traffic studies, citizen traffic complaints, and will be focused on, but not limited to, Town of Lexington School Zones along with major roadways thoroughfares such as Sunset Blvd., Augusta Road, Columbia Avenue, and Lake Drive.
Safety enforcement activities will focus on traffic speed in school zones, seatbelt compliance, improper use of the median, disregarding traffic devices, following too closely, speeding and aggressive driving, as well as texting while driving.
Chief Terrence Green says that “One part of the Lexington Police Department Strategic Plan is to lower the number of traffic collisions that happen daily on the roadways of the Town of Lexington. Every collision that occurs puts too many drivers, their occupants, and pedestrians at risk. Many, if not all, of these crashes are preventable with alert and safe drivers behind the wheel.”
