PHMS student takes the field as Panthers’ honorary captain

Lexington, SC - Pleasant Hill Middle School Seventh-Grader Scott E. Woodyard walked into the field at Bank of America Stadium surrounded by his personal heroes.

As winner of a Carolina Panthers game day contest, Woodyard served as the team’s honorary captain during the September 17 home game against the Buffalo Bills in Charlotte. He stood on the sidelines with the players and walked with team captains Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Ryan Kalil, Greg Olsen, Thomas Davis and Kurt Coleman to the 50-yard-line for the coin toss.

With Woodyard as the day’s honorary captain, the Panthers defeated the Bills 9–3.

Woodyard won the experience after being randomly selected from entries in the Panthers Privileges program. In addition to being a member of the PHMS Junior Honor Society, Woodyard is a PHMS MATHCOUNTS member and Boy Scout, has a black belt in karate, and is an accomplished piano player.
