West Columbia, SC - Fulmer Middle School has been named a 2018 National School to Watch, one of only a handful of middle schools in South Carolina to receive the designation.
It’s the third time since 2011 that Fulmer has been recognized with the honor from the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, and one of only about 400 middle schools nationwide to do so in that time.
The recognition identifies schools well on their way to meeting the forum’s high performance criteria, including academic excellence, responsiveness to challenges of early adolescence and socially equitable practices and support of students.
As a previous recipient, Fulmer Middle was named a Redesignation II School to Watch. To receive the recognition, the Lexington Two school submitted applications outlining how it’s meeting the forum’s criteria, as well as a three-year comparison of student achievement data, student attendance, and discipline data. Forum representatives also came to Fulmer for focus groups, classroom visits and other activities.
“Fulmer Middle School has a long-standing tradition of excellence, and multiple stakeholders in our school community work diligently to provide opportunities for our students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Fulmer Principal Megan Carrero. “Being redesignated as a National School to Watch continuously holds our practices to a high standard and drives our innovative mindset in our work with adolescent learners. Through this process, we continue to adapt and grow on our trajectory to excellence.”
