Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Caleb Rowell, the fugitive who eluded Gaston police officers this week by catching a ride from an unsuspecting Samaritan, has been arrested. According to Major Stephen Watkins of the Gaston Police Department, Rowell was taken into custody at around 4:00 p.m. at a home within the town’s limits.
Rowell had run from the police after a traffic stop earlier this week. He was assisted in his escape by his girlfriend Brandi Clark who jumped between Rowell and Captain Brandon Poole, allowing time for Rowell to run into the woods and escape. Poole had his weapon drawn and pointed at Rowell when Clark made her move. Rowell is a convicted felon and is known to carry firearms. He had two guns in his car the day of the chase. Clark was arrested that day and charged with hindering the officer in the performance of his duties.
Watkins said that the arrest was made with the help of the Lexington County Sheriffs Department’s Fugitive Task-Force and SLED. He said that the Gaston officer always appreciate the assistance they receive from other agencies.
Rowel is being booked into the jail on a number of charges that will include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He will face a bond hearing soon.
