Car destroyed by fire at Pelion High School's new ball complex

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – A small sedan was destroyed by fire around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the new ball complex located between Pelion High and Pelion Middle Schools. Lexington County’s 911 Communication Center received one call from the owner of the vehicle and one from someone else that the car was burning. Firefighters responded from the Pelion fire station and were backed up by one more engine from the county’s Swansea station that happened to be in the area for extra manpower. They entered the parking area from the Main Street side. The car was completely involved by the time they arrived. The two teams were able to quickly put the fire out.

Firefighters were unable to immediately locate the owner of the vehicle once the fire was extinguished. They contacted their dispatch center and asked that the owner be advised to return to the car so that they could hear what happened and gather the necessary information needed to complete their report. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point. It was deemed a total loss.
