Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – The town of Chapin introduced their new director of planning and zoning at the town’s Planning Commission meeting Tuesday afternoon. Nathan Powell was hired to fill the new position that is much like the one that Chris Clauson held until January of this year. Clauson left Chapin to take a similar job in Fairfield County.
As Chapin’s director of zoning and planning, Powell will be responsible for directing the planning of the town’s explosive growth. He will be charged with equally applying the current ordinances that govern growth and ensuring that all zoning rules and regulations are followed as well. He will also have input into the drafting of new ordinances if he sees the need and the town’s government agrees. It was fitting that Powell was introduced at a Planning Commission meeting as he will be working closely with them in his position.
Powell previously worked with state housing authority. He had served there for 5.5 years. He lives in Columbia, but is interested in moving to the Chapin area. Powell said that he grew up in Wheaton, IL and attended Michigan State graduate school. Powell said that he is excited about coming to Chapin and the opportunities that it will provide. His official starting date will be theTuesday following Memorial Day.
