Funds for the vest were raised through “Poker runs” held by organization, Invest hopes to donate more vests
Lexington, SC (James Bowers) - Active shooter vests can save the life of a law enforcement officer. They can also be costly, and many smaller police departments are unable to afford these devices. That is where InVest comes to the rescue.
Founded by Michael Letts in 1993, the organization donates active shooter vests to law enforcement agencies all over the US. InVest holds numerous fundraising events throughout the country, such as the “poker runs” held Saturday, with the proceeds used to finance a vest for small departments like the Pine Ridge Police Department which serves the tiny community in Southern Lexington County.
InVest presented a vest to the Pine Ridge PD during a Saturday afternoon event at the Carolina Wings on North Lake Drive in Lexington. The vest will be used by PRPD Lieutenant Starkey, who handles high risk situations for the force. Chief Nick Scott said he is appreciative of the organization’s support, as well as the residents who donated funds for the vest. “We’re really grateful and humbled by the support,” Scott said. “The vest will be put to good use.” Scott says that InVest plans to raise funds for two more vests which will give PRPD officers the adequate protection they need when they are doing their jobs.
