Tipsy Toad Tavern’s Summer Concert Series benefits Chapin Police Department

Sweet Tea and the 803 performance, dunk tank highlight festivities

Chapin, SC (James Bowers) - For Tipsy Toad Tavern owner Steve Wall, giving back to the community is important. The Beaufort Street bar and eatery, which this year is celebrating its 15th anniversary, hosts a benefit concert every month to raise funds for organizations in and around the town of Chapin. The Tipsy Toad calls these its Summer Concert Series. For June, Wall and company chose to honor Chapin’s finest; the Chapin Police Department.

Local band Sweet T and the 803 performed, and event goers were treated to other fun activities like a dunk tank and some great food and beverage options. Though some ominous looking weather was beginning to set in, it did not dampen the spirits of those in attendance; They enjoyed some cold beers and great rock n’ roll. Attendees could buy barbecue for $5 a plate and enter to win a cooler provided by Budweiser of Columbia. There was also a dunk tank on hand where people could attempt to send a Chapin Police Officer for a little swim all in the name of good fun. Proceeds from all the alcohol sales went to the Chapin PD. A similar event held last year raised $2000 for CPD, a total Wall hoped to exceed with this year’s event.

For Wall, it was all about giving back. He’s civic minded and knows that businesses aren’t supposed to be a community, they’re supposed to be a part of a community. The Chapin Police Department is just one organization the Tipsy Toad SCS concerts have helped. Other organizations that have received the benefit of The Toads’ big heart include the Screaming Eagles Special Needs Athletic Club and the Chapin We Care center. The bar has also hosted benefits for ailing former Chapin High coach and teacher W.F. Sullivan. “It’s all about coming together and helping out,” Wall said of his charitable endeavors. The next Summer Concert Series event will be another Screaming Eagles benefit featuring a performance from Killer Beez.
