Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Greater Chapin Area Chamber of Commerce presented a scholarship last week to (Lexi) Hoeve, a student at Chapin High School. The check for $1,000 was presented by Christina Chappell, the Executive Director of the Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce, Nicholle Burroughs of the Chamber and the Town of Chapin, Chapin’s Mayor David Knight, and SC Representative Chip Huggins.
Lexi plans to attend USC to attain her BSN, and then pursue her MSN. She wants to be a nurse practitioner, specializing in pediatric oncology. Lexi was enrolled and completed the health science program at CHS. Through that program, she was able to job shadow an oncology nurse at Lexington Medical Center. She said that opportunity allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of her career goals and provided her with a lot of clarity.
Lexi grew up in a single income household, with a self-employed mother, and because of that, she is to be responsible for funding her higher education. She is ranked 47th in her class and carries a 4.385 GPA. She was named 2017 4A South Carolina Cheerleader of the Year, and as Captain of the varsity Cheer-leading team, she helped lead the team to a state title. Overall, she is extremely well rounded, and very deserving of the scholarship. The chamber’s leadership feels as if they couldn’t find a more deserving recipient for the scholarship.
