Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – One person is dead after someone struck a bicyclist in Gaston this morning and then fled the scene. The accident happened at South Main and Sprahler Streets causing a major traffic tie-up for most of the morning.
The SCHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is on the scene collecting evidence and is leading the investigation because of their specialized skills in these cases. They investigate complicated vehicle crashes using state-of-the-art technology and analysis to reconstruct the scene. They have a great success rate in solving these types of crimes.
The wreck happened just before 6:00 a.m. Friday. Motorist reported being detoured around the entire scene as law enforcement officer kept the road closed for some time. One lane of South Main Street (Hwy 321 south) is now back open.
