LEXINGTON, S.C. — Midway Elementary landed a spot on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s 2018 list of America’s Healthiest Schools, achieving bronze level.
America’s Healthiest Schools recognizes schools nationwide that create healthier school environments where children can thrive.
One of only 461 schools to earn this accolade, MES made the list by making changes that promote healthier eating and physical activity for students and staff.
School leaders say the award demonstrates MES’s commitment to fostering the health of students and staff. Specifically, the school worked hard over the last four years to create a healthy environment for faculty and students. Classroom teachers added more physical activity during the school day, while Lexington District One increased the amount of time students participate in physical education each week. MES’s cafeteria also provides nutritious meal options and smart snacks.
Schools must meet or exceed stringent standards for serving healthier meals and snacks, getting students moving more, offering high-quality physical and health education and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.
