Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire on Waters Ferry Road near Isaiah Hallman Road close to Gilbert heavily damaged a home and sent one person to the hospital Wednesday morning. The fire, which was reported at about 7:15 a.m., brought firefighters from across the central and western portion of the county to the scene.
First arriving personnel reported they had heavy smoke showing when they arrived from the county’s Gilbert fire station. Additional crews arrived from other stations along with tanker trucks carrying more water to fight the fire. Within a short period, the teams reported they had the fire under control.
A spokesman for Lexington County said that one person was located outside the home when firefighters arrived. That person was suffering from what was described as minor smoke inhalation and transported to a local medical facility by Lexington EMS as a precaution.
The fire started in the kitchen area of the home. In total, about $30,000 worth of damage was done to the structure and its contents.
