Pelion High School culinary students dish up perfect score

Pelion, SC - Preparing for their future careers, students at Pelion High School passed an industry exam with flying colors.

One hundred percent of students in the school’s Culinary Arts II course passed the ServSafe Manager Certification this fall, a testament to their hard work and the quality instruction of Culinary Arts Teacher Rhonda Woods.

Students include Pelion High’s Elizabeth J. Cooper, Riley J. Edwards, Megen T. Gordon and Colby R. Miles, and White Knoll High’s Shelby L. Ballington, Aaleyah J. Gantt, Jada S. Johnson, Coleman L. Queen, DJ Richardson, Daniel A. Spencer, Hannah G. Talbert and Elizabeth M. Weston.

Food service operations recognize that students who hold this certification have a higher knowledge of food safety and look to hire them before other candidates. SCDHEC requires all food service operations in South Carolina to have at least one employee per shift with this certification. Students currently working in the food service industry can also earn higher wages when they pass the exam.

The PHS Culinary Arts program takes pride in having a 98–100 percent passing rate each year.
