Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – A small fire at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Jimmy Love Lane near Irmo displaced the occupant of one unit Sunday afternoon. Firefighters from the nearby Irmo Fire District quickly extinguished the blaze but the damage from the fire and water had already been done.
The call regarding this fire came in, as much of Irmo’s resources were running from call-to-call on a very busy afternoon. Lexington County’s 911 Center also dispatched trucks and personnel from the county to assist, as did the City of Columbia Fire Department. Irmo equipment and firefighters arrived and were quickly able to bring the small fire under control. After Columbia fire personnel arrived to assist, the responding Lexington County equipment was released to return to their quarters.
The battalion chief from the Irmo Fire District requested the American Red Cross to assist the occupant of the unit that was most heavily damaged. Once firefighters cleared the smoke from the building, they also returned to their quarters.
