Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Congratulations to Allison Cook and Wendi Miller on being nominated for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. These awards, which are often shortened to the acronym PAEMST, are the highest honors bestowed on Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers by the American government in the subject areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science. The President recognizes up to 108 outstanding teachers each year who have a depth of content knowledge in the subject areas they teach and have a great ability to motivate and empower their students to be successful in those subjects. At B-L High School, Mrs. Cook teaches Science and Mrs. Miller teaches Math.
The next step of the process will be for Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Miller to each complete an online application. Applications will then be evaluated by selection committees and three finalists from each award category (mathematics and science) will be selected for each state. The applications for the state winners will then be forwarded on to the national level for review. National Presidential Awardees receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and a paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities.
Good luck Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Miller!
