New Brookland Cayce High School arena a state-of-the-art facility and community showplace

Cayce, SC (Jack Kunowsky) - Brookland-Cayce High School’s brand new arena is truly a spectacle. The 43,000 square-foot building opened its doors this past Tuesday when the boys’ varsity basketball team came away with a 14 point win vs. its in-district rivals the Airport Eagles -- not a bad debut to say the least.

The facility is home to the state of the art basketball gym, weight and training room, BCHS Hall of Fame Classroom, coaches’ offices, conference rooms, and several beautiful cases to display trophies and memorabilia. It’s also worth mentioning that the locker rooms are wonderfully designed and much like ones you’d see at a small college, as each locker has a glossy wood finish and features a custom name plate for each player. The weight and training room features a 50 yard turf strip, is very roomy, and has multiple flat screen TV’s. It also has garage-like rollup doors that can be opened when it is nice outside. The Bearcat logo looks gorgeous on the several areas it’s painted and proves to be a nice touch to each area on which it is featured.

The 1,500 seat arena features attractive scoreboards, one of them being a four sided college/pro-style piece hanging above center court. The bleachers are Bearcat red and there is a dedicated student section that’s sure to make a ruckus for opposing teams. The scorer’s table and seats for the players are also the latest and greatest, further showcasing the Bearcats logo.

This new environment is certainly an upgrade from the former designated gymnasium for the school, which was an intimate setting but much smaller. The gorgeous new facility will surely help players’ and coaches’ mindsets for practices, training, and games, and will prove to be an exciting venue for the community for years to come. There have also been rumors of the possibility that NCAA tournament practices could be held in the arena in the future. This would be a wonderful opportunity for basketball fans and the community. One can only hope that comes to fruition!

A basketball double-header vs. South Aiken is scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday, the 29th, as the girls’ varsity team plays at 6:00 PM followed by the boys at 7:30 PM.
