Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – Police officers from several Lexington County towns recently won awards for their work in the prevention of DUI crashes and fatalities at the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s 2018 DUI Enforcement Recognition & DUI Challenge Ceremony. This ceremony is held each year to recognize the efforts of officers and agencies who have worked hard toward achieving the statewide goal of ZERO DUI fatalities in the coming years. They’ve done this by taking drunk drivers off our streets.
PSO Denver Rogers of the Cayce Department of Public Safety was named a DUI Hero! Officers who win this make 50+ arrests in a year. PSO Rogers is a member of Cayce Traffic Enforcement Team. Corporal John Maynard and MPSO Trevor Hall were also recognized during the event for their efforts in DUI enforcement. Cayce’s Traffic Team is fully funded by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The funds are dispersed by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs.
The Town of Chapin Police Department won Agency of the Year in its size classification during the DUI Awards Ceremony. They participate in the agencies with 1-10 officers category. Officer Blake Gainous from Chapin also won the Officer of the Year for a department of their size for the entire state! Officer Campbell received the Bronze Award for making more than 10 DUI arrests.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department had three deputies that were classified DUI Heroes for making more than 50 arrest. Deputies James Hyatt, Phillip Ellis, and Dean Smith all received this award during the ceremony.
The Town of Lexington’s TSI Alewine was recognized in the DUI Silver Heroes category with 25-49 DUI arrests, and TSI Brian Payton was recognized in the DUI Bronze Heroes category with 10-24 DUI arrests. As an agency, the Lexington Police Department received a DUI Challenge Award for Gold Level Agency participation with the 11th Circuit Law Enforcement Network.
All of these law enforcement heroes take to the streets of our towns, cities, and county every day to make sure they’re safe for all the drivers who are both clean and sober. We should all appreciate their hard work.
