Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle Sunday morning in the 3700 block of Two Notch Road near Blackthorn Drive close to Gilbert. The accident was discovered by a Lexington County EMS unit that was driving down Two Notch Road when they came upon the accident. They notified Lexington County’s 911 Center by radio.
Almost no information is currently available regarding how the accident occurred. We do not know if the victim was walking or riding a bike, but the vehicle that struck the person did stop. We do know that the ambulance crew drove up on the accident around 6:30 a.m. which was just before sunrise. A fire truck was quickly dispatched to assist the EMS personnel and eventually the ambulance left the scene with a firefighter driving. They transported to the Trauma Center at Prisma Health’s Richland campus. The patient had life-threatening injuries as a result of being struck.
THE SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. There have been a number of vehicles versus pedestrian accident in Lexington County in 2019. Several have ended with the pedestrian’s death. State troopers are urging people who walk or ride bicycles alongside the road to follow basic safety rules and always wear light clothing and reflective vest or sashes if possible.
