Pine Ridge, SC (Paul Kirby) – Recently, Neta Foster and her daughter dropped off some dog food and treats at the Pine Ridge Police Department as a donation. Pine Ridge recently put K-9 Rens on the streets as a partner to Lt. Silano, so it would seem to make sense that these two good Samaritans were taking the police dog something to eat. In fact, that’s not what they were doing at all. Most police K-9s eat very specific foods made for animals who expend the energy they do while working. The items the Fosters dropped off are being donated to local non-profit animal shelters in Rens’ honor.
The Pine Ridge Police Department will be collecting dog food, cat food and clean blankets, towels, and sheets through the end of May. Then, all those items will be taken to our local non-profit animal shelters to supplement their needs. Donations are the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations, and animal shelters are no different. Homeless pets are among some of the neediest creatures of all; often abandoned by their humans, they’re forced to rely on the help of strangers. They also need loving homes if you have the space where you live and in your heart for them.
Helping others is what police officers do. Every day that Rens takes to the streets with Lt. Silano, he’s ready to put his life on the line to help someone if need be. Helping his fellow animals is a great way to honor what he does and just say, “Great job Officer Rens.”
You may drop off any of the above listed items at Pine Ridge Town Hall on Fish Hatchery Road during regular business hours through May 31st at 5:00pm. Officer Rens joins the rest of the Pine Ridge Police Department in saying thanks to all of you who can help.
