Public’s tips lead to arrest of Wal-Mart shoplifter, fraudster

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington police officers are once again crediting the public for the arrest of a shoplifter and return fraud scheme perpetrator who stole items from the Wal-Mart in town. Just a few days ago, they released photos of the man who took these things and then returned then fraudulently to obtain other items. In short order, the police were inundated with tips that led them to Dwight Anthony Powell.

After receiving all the tips, warrants were issued for Powell on charges of Shoplifting and Obtaining Goods by False Pretenses.Powell was arrested Thursday with the assistance of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. He was booked into the detention center where he would later faces a bond hearing.
