Swansea, SC - This summer, Swansea High School Senior Megan Collins participated in Lexington Medical Center's highly selective Partner's Program.
During the intensive three-week internship, Megan was introduced to the rigors and rewards of the health care industry. She experienced first-hand operations of the hospital in the clinical areas of Outpatient Surgery, 7th-floor Surgical Unit, and Radiology. In addition, she participated in interactive workshops, activities, and seminars that included presentations from healthcare professionals. Megan received a $1,000 scholarship from the program.
After graduation from high school, she plans to pursue a pre-med pathway for her undergraduate degree, then attend medical school to become a trauma surgeon.
When asked about her experience Megan said, “My brain is really weird compared to others and most people don’t understand my fascination with the medical field. This month-long opportunity allowed me to make friendships with people that think and work like me. This was truly an amazing opportunity, and I am very thankful that Mrs. Hartley, my Health Science teacher, told me to apply for this program. I was able to experience everything she taught me.”
