Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Pelion Church of the Nazarene is holding a dinner to celebrate the first anniversary of their Celebrate Recovery program. During that gathering, Bobby Brazell, the executive director of the Midlands Recovery Center will also speak.
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered 12-step program that helps people who are struggling with addiction. They also offer support to family and loved ones who are co-dependent. According to their website www.celebraterecovery.com, Celebrate Recovery started in 1991 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. John Baker, an alcoholic and staff member of Saddleback Church, began healing through Alcoholics Anonymous. He eventually wrote Pastor Rick Warren a letter outlining the vision God had given him for Celebrate Recovery. After reading John’s letter, Pastor Rick said, “Great, John — go do it!”
The speaker, Bobby Brazell, is in recovery from an opiate addiction. His 20 years in active addiction have given him a unique insight into chemical dependency. He is a leader in the Celebrate Recovery at Lexington First Baptist Church. He shares his recovery story by speaking to groups about his experiences.
The dinner is scheduled for Thursday, September 26th beginning at 6:00 p.m. It will be held at the church at 474 Pine Street (SC Hwy 302) in Pelion. The dinner is FREE and anyone struggling with addiction, or anyone who has a loved one who is chemically dependent, is urged to attend.
