Fire near Chapin under investigation by law enforcement

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – A structure fire in the Chapin area of Lexington County is being investigated by law enforcement officers after the home burned overnight. The fire occurred Sunday morning just after 12:30 a.m. in the Wessinger Farms area off St. Thomas Church Road. This is within several miles of the county’s Crossroads Fire Station.
Firefighters from the North Region of the county battled the blaze for several hours after they were dispatched and arrived to find the structure well involved. A truck from the Irmo Fire District stood by in Chapin while all of Lexington County’s resources from the area were committed. Firefighters were assisted by personnel from Lexington County’s EMS. Most of the county’s fire equipment and personnel were leaving or gone from the scene by 5:00 a.m.
Sunday morning, Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, said that he had no further information to release. He said that law enforcement had been handed the case and they were beginning their investigation. The Lexington County Fire Service did have a fire marshal on the scene Sunday assisting the investigators as needed.
