Cayce officers in the early stages of a stabbing investigation at the Knights Inn on Airport Bouleva

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Cayce Department of Public Safety is in the early stages of an investigation into a stabbing that occurred at the Knights Inn on Airport Boulevard near I-26. According to Sergeant First Class Evan Antley, the victim of the violent melee is in serious but stable condition at the Lexington Medical Center.

Antley said the incident occurred at the motel, but the victim fled the scene before calling for help. He also said their latest report from the hospital is that the man lost a great deal of blood, but he is expected to survive. “Had the victim not called for help before when he did, he very well could have died,” Antley said.

Currently, Chief Byron Snellgrove of the Cayce’s Department of Public Safety is on the scene at the motel as is most of the command staff of the department. They are there along with several investigators and patrol officers. Antley said that the chief has made it clear that they are going to focus on any type criminal activity taking place at the motel. According to the sergeant, Snellgrove has made it clear that the department is going to aggressively step up their enforcement efforts at that property no matter how trivial the crime. “Even if we find problems that are not related to the stabbing, Chief Snellgrove has made it clear he’s ready to force a change at that property. We have been down here on numerous calls just today and the chief has said he's going to do whatever it takes to put an end to the continued problems at the Knights Inn.” That business is well-known for having issues that require the police to respond.

Officers have taken someone into custody that has been transported to Cayce’s headquarters for questioning. The motive for the stabbing hasn’t been released.
