Batesburg-Leesville, SC – The Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees voted on Tuesday, March 31st to name Dr. Drew “Ashley” Atkinson, Jr. as the school district’s next superintendent. Dr. Atkinson currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Spartanburg School District Five in Duncan, South Carolina.
Prior to being named to his current position in Spartanburg Five, Dr. Atkinson served as an Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction; Director of Accountability, Assessment and Research; Director of Guidance Services; mathematics and chemistry teacher; assistant football coach; wrestling coach and golf coach.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree (Mathematics with minors in Computer Science and Chemistry) from Francis Marion University. He has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Atkinson will start as superintendent on July 1, 2020. He will work with the district and board prior to the official start date to ensure a smooth transition.
