Shooting victim transported from West Columbia Friday wounded in Cayce neighborhood

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) -The man that was transported by Lexington EMS from West Columbia with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound before daylight Friday, was actually shot in the City of Cayce. According to First Sgt. Evan Antley, spokesman for the Cayce Department of Public Safety, their investigation into the events surrounding the shooting is ongoing.

Police believe the shooting occurred in the Riverland Park neighborhood on Riverland Drive. This is on the banks of the Congaree River and is near the intersection of Old State and New State Roads.

The wounded man ended up at a home in the 1000 block of Brookwood Circle in the City of West Columbia. He was either driven there by someone or transported himself to that location after he was wounded. He was shot in an upper extremity and is being treated at a local medical facility for that injury.

Antley said that at this point, their investigators are still in the process of collecting evidence and performing other tasks that would go along with this type of incident. He did indicate that the shooter and the injured man were acquaintances and the shooting was not some random act.

We have asked that they update us with further details as those become available.
