Town of Lexington opens all their parks today

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of Lexington announced Saturday that it was opening all its town parks at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2020. They had all been closed as Governor McMaster issued orders and restricted travel and other activities that could cause the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Lexington has some wonderful parks and green space. Virginia Hylton Park has been undergoing a major revitalization and it is absolutely beautiful in the spring. Features include a creek with overlooks, a horseshoe pit, iris garden, and a koi pond to name a few. There is also a large, covered stage/shelter with a grill, ceiling fans, lights, and electrical outlets. It is located just behind the town hall off South Lake Drive near the intersection of Maiden Lane.

The town’s Corley Street Park has many playground features for children and lots of shade for adults. There is a spray fountain, and well-maintained restrooms as is the case with every park. Yes, it is located on Corley Street.

The Caractor [sic] Park off Hendrix Street is behind LMC’s facility Urgent Care. It is small but gets great reviews for its hopscotch court, mist fountain, picnic shelters, playground, and rope climber.

Please remember that all the CDC guidelines for stopping the spread of the COVID-19 virus still need to be observed. Be kind and understanding to others and give others their space. Using all of Lexington’s parks can be enjoyable but remember, it’s a privilege not a right. Please do not act in a way that could be dangerous to others and cause the Town to close them for the public’s safety again.
