2020 Memorial Day Buckle Up South Carolina Campaign began Monday

Lexington, SC – Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department said Monday that town officers, along with law enforcement agencies statewide, will be participating in the 2020 Memorial Day Buckle Up South Carolina campaign once again. This began today, Monday May 18, 2020. Officers will be conducting safety belt enforcement activities through the Memorial Day holiday. The Buckle Up South Carolina campaign will end on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

For the next two weeks, Traffic Division and Patrol Division officers across the state will be focused on safety belt enforcement. Officers will be working together on several saturation events specifically looking for violations of South Carolina’s primary safety belt law.

The Buckle Up South Carolina mobilization falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety initiative to end all highway fatalities. This campaign combines high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.

The ‘100 Deadly Days of Summer’ fall between the Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays. Anyone riding in any motor vehicle, both day and night, are asked to always use their safety belt. This greatly decreases their chance of injury or death in the event of a collision.
