South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identity of the man that was killed in a collision in the 1400 block of Church Street within a mile of the town of South Congaree Saturday. Fisher said the deadly rollover occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on May 23, 2020.
According to Coroner Fisher, Demetrius A. Holman, 39, of St. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained in the crash. Holman was traveling north on Church Street from the Gaston area when his vehicle went off the left side of the road. Holman over corrected and completely lost control causing his vehicle to flip multiple times. Holman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the flipping vehicle. There were no other occupants in the vehicle with Holman at the time. He was not wearing a seat belt when the incident occurred according to Coroner Fisher.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
This is one of many fatal collisions that have already occurred across the state since the Memorial Day weekend began. Troopers are urging drivers to use extra caution, wear their seatbelts, stayed focused on the road, and refrain from operating a vehicle if they have used any intoxicants. Holidays normally bring with them heavy traffic and an increase in fatal collisions.
