South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – A woman who drowned in a pond late Friday morning was revived by someone who performed CPR before she was transported to a hospital. The 911 call came in shortly before noon reporting the drowning on Lake Frances Drive off Ramblin Road near South Congaree.
According to a man that was on the scene, he pulled the woman from the water. She had apparently slipped and fallen in while pushing some babies in a carriage. Another bystander began doing CPR.
Lexington County EMS responded as did county fire service personnel. While emergency crews were enroute, they were told the woman had been removed from the water and someone had begun chest compressions. A specialty truck equipped for water rescue was also dispatched. That truck was released before it arrived on scene after it was determined that it was not needed.

As EMS and first responders arrived, they assumed patient care until she was moved to the back of a waiting ambulance. The patient’s vital signs had returned at this point. Lexington County’s EMS fleet features trucks that are well equipped, much like an emergency department at a hospital might be. Their personnel’s training is also top tier. The ambulance whisked her off to a nearby hospital using its warning lights and siren. By the time the unit arrived at the hospital, the woman’s breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure had stabilized.
Even though someone has been quickly revived after drowning, they still are treated at the hospital to prevent complications like pneumonia. The woman’s current health condition is not available. Information regarding her health is protected by privacy laws.
