Collision with US Postal Service vehicle flips small pickup truck and heavily damages mail vehicle

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A US Postal Service vehicle was struck Friday evening on Meadowfield Road between SC Hwy. 6 and Fish Hatchery Rd. The truck from the Postal Service was heavily damaged and the small Ford involved turned upside down in the road.

The accident happened after 7:00 p.m. Friday as the postal truck's operator was doing their work. A local resident who witnessed the wreck and lived right at the location said the postal vehicle appeared to be mired in a ditch from all the recent rain that was along its route. A good Samaritan stopped to assist the postal driver and once the vehicle was free, the witness said the postal vehicle turned back into the road where it was struck by the small pickup truck causing the collision.

Lexington EMS, firefighters, and sheriff's deputies were on the scene. The SCHP also responded to investigate the collision. The incident forced Lexington County first responders to have Meadowfield Road closed as the emergency workers did their jobs at the scene.

Law enforcement was working the accident and at 7:40 p.m., the road was still closed. Officers will do a full investigation into the collision before releasing their report. There is no information on the condition of either vehicle’s occupants.
