9-year-old Lexington boy headed to Junior Olympics this weekend

Lexington, SC 07/22/2024 (Paul Kirby) - Cameron Greyson, age 9, of Lexington will be heading to North Carolina this weekend to participate in the Junior Olympics. This competition will be held at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.

This is Cameron's 3rd year qualifying for the Junior Olympics. This year, he will be competing in the 1500m racewalk on Saturday, July 27th, and the 1500m run on Tuesday, July 30th.

In the Regionals, Cameron placed 1st  in the Racewalk and 5th in the region for the 1500m run. This is highly commendable given that Cameron is competing in an age group above his own. This is due to the fact that Cameron's birthday is in December of the year the season is held.

Cameron began running track at just 7- years-old for the Lexington Wildcats recreational team that is coached by Coach Anna. This year, he joined a track club, Team Blaze, under coach Nate. Cameron also joined Max Speed to push himself further this year. Cameron has also begun training for the 3000m run which is open to 11-year-olds. Because of the issue with his birthday, he will be competing next season as a 10-year-old in this event.

Good luck and safe travels Cameron and crew!
