Allen named assistant principal at White Knoll High School

Lexington, SC (06/10/2021) - Recently, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Walter J. Allen to assistant principal of White Knoll High School, where he currently serves as a social studies teacher.

Allen just completed his 10th year of teaching at WKHS, where he began his career in 2001.

During his tenure, he taught various social studies, government and history courses. He piloted a learning project to promote student growth in U.S. history and served as a liaison for social studies with the district’s adult education center. He also collaborated with his colleagues to create literacy strategies that helped increase student’s pass rate on the end-of-course U.S. history exam.

Allen, who earned WKHS’s 2019–2020 Teacher of the Year award, led the school’s Food Service Committee during the pandemic, which developed a food distribution plan for students on hybrid schedules. He also coordinated with colleagues to develop virtual teaching strategies.

From 2017 to 2021, Allen coached the WKHS varsity girls basketball team and led the team to three consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in school history.

Allen earned a Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Arts in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina.

Allen holds certification in secondary social studies and secondary administration.
