Brian Duncan launches write-in campaign for SC House District 88 amid serious allegations against incumbent RJ May

Lexington, SC 10/22/2024 (Staff Writer) - Today, Brian Duncan, a lifelong Lexington County resident, conservative republican, decorated military veteran, and community leader, announced his candidacy as a write-in option for the South Carolina House District 88 race. This decision comes as incumbent RJ May faces a federal investigation involving allegations tied to child exploitation and the possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

On August 12, Homeland Security agents executed a search warrant at May’s residence, seizing electronic devices as part of the investigation (The State, August 13, 2024). It has now been 70 days since the raid, and RJ May has remained completely silent and absent from his duties in Lexington County. While he has not been charged in connection with any crime, and if eventually charged, he would be entitled to due process, including the presumption of innocence, his silence and abandonment of his position are deeply concerning. The nature of these accusations is abhorrent, standing in stark contrast to everything RJ May has publicly claimed to represent, as well as the values of our community. Even his Freedom Caucus colleagues, who are typically in lockstep with him as a founding member, have failed to come to his defense or speak out on the allegations. Their silence speaks volumes, suggesting they, too, have abandoned him (FITSNews, August 6, 2024).

“Our community deserves better than a politician who hides from accountability,” Duncan said. “We need someone who will stand up, speak the truth, and put the people first. That’s why I’m stepping up to provide voters with a real choice on November 5th.”

Senator Katrina Shealy, a respected leader known for advocating for children and families, expressed her support for Duncan’s campaign: “The people of District 88 deserve a representative who is present, accountable, and committed to the well-being of our community. Brian Duncan has the integrity and courage to step up when others have failed. We need him in the State House now more than ever.”

Duncan’s campaign, supported by the community and local leaders, will focus on restoring trust, addressing pressing issues like economic development, infrastructure, and support for veterans.

“This election is about sending a message,” Duncan added. “We won’t tolerate politicians who shirk their responsibilities in the face of serious accusations. It’s time for leadership that measures up.”

As voters head to the polls, the choice is clear: reject RJ May and the failure to uphold the values of our community. Write in Brian Duncan—a principled leader who will bring accountability and integrity back to District 88.
