Cayce, SC 09/10/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Detectives with the Cayce Police Department were investigating a shooting that ended with one person dead at the Alight Apartments on Alexander Road in the city. This incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, September 9, 2024.
Cayce PD has provided little details regarding the shooting at this point. We do know that after the first reports of the gunfire were received by the police, they had units on scene in a matter of moments. There, they found a man in his car who had been shot multiple times. He was transported to a local medical facility where he was pronounced dead.
A command center was established, and a perimeter was set up to try and contain the shooter. K-9 units were also on scene if they were needed for tracking. The buildings were searched one by one as officers looked for evidence and the shooter.
During all this activity, officers asked that people avoid the area so that they could work without interruption. Residents of the apartments were being asked to show an ID before being allowed into the complex. A spokesperson for the city said that officers believed this was an isolated incident.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now identified the person who died as Jalen Latrell Allen, 22, of Columbia. An autopsy has been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on September 12, 2024, at MUSC in Charleston, SC.
