Cayce-West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - The board of directors of the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to cancel their 2020 Holiday Parade of Lights. This parade is one of the most popular Christmas events held in the Midlands area and has been year after year. It was attended by thousands and televised so that viewers at home could also enjoy it.
In an email from chamber president and CEO Tim James, he said this was certainly not the outcome that the board of directors wanted. “The Parade of Lights has become a tradition and a part of our community and one that all enjoy, however after much deliberation, safety for all during this pandemic remains a priority and in the best interest of all, large crowds could be problematic,” James said in his statement.
The second Saturday of December has normally been recognized as the weekend that the Parade of Lights took place. While the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce will not have an organized event or parade that weekend in 2020, they ask that citizens reserve that Saturday as a day to shop locally, decorate their homes or businesses, and in general do everything possible to reflect a festive spirit in the community.
In closing his communication James said, “we remain committed and hopeful for upcoming events!”
