Cayce, SC 03/27/2025 (Paul Kirby) – A woman has been killed in a three-vehicle collision that occurred on Old Dunbar Road in the Cayce area of Lexington County Wednesday afternoon. According to Master Trooper William Bennett of the SC Highway Patrol (SCHP), this collision occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. near the Old Dunbar Road and McCall Street intersection.
According to Bennett, a 2016 Nissan sedan and a 2019 Kia sedan were both travelling west toward Edmund Highway when a Honda SUV travelling in the opposite direction crossed the centerline and struck the Nissan head on. The impact knocked the Nissan into the Kia behind it. The driver of the Honda SUV, Mrs. Audrey Weems Birchmore, 79, of Cayce died on the scene as a result of the crash. Both the other vehicles involved were occupied by just their drivers. The driver of the Nissan was not seriously injured. The driver of the Kia was transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Master Trooper Bennett said that this collision is still being investigated by the SCHP and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
